Meditative Garden: Creating a Reflection Spot

Imagine a serene outdoor space designed for self-reflection and exploration. A place where curvy paths guide you through lush surroundings, soothing scents, and comfortable seating invites you to take it all in. This transformative project starts with the untapped potential of a large patch of grass. Join me as we explore the initial steps and envision the possibilities.

Planting the Seeds of Belief: As with any endeavor, the first challenge is convincing others of the project’s potential. It’s early, and as you can clearly see above, Evelyn’s embraced the vision. Sure, she stopped at her sandbox for a stint, but her enthusiasm sparked as soon as the clippers came out. As for Dave, I walked the new ground and expressed my desires aloud, but when he saw nothing requiring his touch he promptly about-faced and headed back inside.

Clearing the Path: Equipped with a $70 impulse limb cutter Costco buy, Evelyn and I engaged in a rhythmic dance of “1, 2, 3 PULL,” gradually transforming the cedar bough landscape to a higher and tighter, less in-your-face look. Even the curious ducks joined in, pecking at the freshly sawed trees with their bills.

Shaping the Space: Inspired by Evelyn’s suggestion, I outlined a spot in front of the rhododendrons and camellias using spray paint. Armed with a hoe, I uprooted tufts of grass. Embracing the tactile connection with the earth, I removed my Birkenstocks. Where I felt the dirt shift beneath my feet, showed me where to level with the rake.

Patience and Planning: While catching up in the excitement is natural, proceeding methodically is essential. The path’s trajectory will reveal itself in due time, but first I took a chair, sat at the path’s entry, imagined, played, and anticipated where I’d capture the best views.

Creating an outdoor reflection spot is a labor of love, filled with anticipation and joy. With each step forward, we inch closer to realizing our vision of a space that inspires self-discovery and exploration. So, embrace the journey, take your time, and let the transformative power of nature guide you toward a sanctuary of serenity.

Love, Jaclynn
