Oddities And Curiosities

As I relax in the hammock at our cabin, I take a break to indulge in my favorite pastime—writing. To my left, I am surrounded by dark green fronds of ferns spread out like feathers. One particular tree catches my attention; instead of a traditional trunk are tens of branches adorned with a velvety, green, moss-like covering. Although currently in shadow, I know that when the sun hits it just right, the moss will transform into a radiant fluorescent green light, a spectacle to behold.

Meanwhile, Evelyn is engrossed in watching “Horton Hears a Who,” and Dave excitedly cheers on his team during the fourth game of the Stanley Cup. It’s a tranquil moment, interrupted only by the awareness of a persistent mosquito feasting on me and the slight chill that accompanies being outdoors at 8:30 PM with freshly showered hair.

Despite our cabin being located 2241 feet away from the ocean, and it being a low tide it still casts a rhythmic hum that reaches my ears, reminding me of the vastness and power of the sea.

Earlier today, I took on the task of reviving the cabin’s exterior. Armed with a Brillo pad, I diligently scrubbed away the rust that had accumulated on the front door due to the salt air. I then made the bold decision to update the color from blue to yellow. When my neighbor, Cathy, paid a visit and noticed the rust bleeding through the yellow paint, she suggested using Killz, a primer that inhibits rust corrosion. I realized that I would have to make another trip to Ace Hardware tomorrow to buy supplies. While I’m there, I might as well pick up a few spray cans to breathe new life into the equally weathered bistro set.

The highlight of my day unfolded as I ventured into the bustling Urban Unglued Freaks market at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. The atmosphere was alive with pop-up tents, their owners proudly displaying and selling their unique creations. As I wandered, a myriad of fascinating items caught my eye. Intricately arranged small vermin bones adorned with delicate flowers, alongside mystical tarot cards and bundles of aromatic sage. The market was a whimsical gathering, with sellers donning fairy wings, colorful wigs, and elaborate corsets that added an enchanting touch to their vibrant personalities. It made me wish I was dressed up too! Nevertheless, I immersed myself in its ambiance, capturing a few photos to share with all you wonderful readers out there.

Love, Jaclynn
