Well, Dave and I just booked our first excursion for our month-long trip to Georgia—an overnight stay in Beaufort, South Carolina. It’s a charming coastal town with walkable streets and a used bookstore. Dave was sold on the idea after hearing a podcaster from the show “The Editors” rave about his visit there.
While 99 out of 100 reviews of the Airbnb we chose were positive, one review raised some concerns: “If you’re comfortable in other people’s spaces and with old quirky houses, this is a great stay. We couldn’t get over the unlockable bathroom and bedroom doors and questionable locks on all doors. The place felt unsafe to us. We did not shower and left as soon as we woke up.”
Yes, we’re staying in someone’s house, but I appreciate the opportunity to experience different environments and learn about people. Plus, the beach is within walking distance, and we’ll walk to breakfast in the morning. I consider myself adaptable, just like one of the reviewers described themselves, and the $60 price tag compared to $150+ of others is quite appealing.
The truth is, I don’t mind spending money, as long as it’s on the right things. In this case, we’ll be arriving in the afternoon, having dinner out, and only returning to the place in the evening. The next morning, we’ll be exploring the coast and visiting other towns. The place serves its function, much like toilet paper. And I’m pretty sure they’ll have that covered.
Now, here’s a question I’ve been contemplating: Is it too much to ask our friend Jeff, who’s house-sitting for us, to lightly mist my ferns? I want to make sure they stay healthy while we’re away.
By the way, you should see the teenage ducks running around with their necks leading the way. They look like their legs are spinning in circles, just like those toys you pull with a string. Since they’re still small enough to break out of their pen, they’re exploring and snacking while their mom barks from inside the enclosure. I’m planning to pick up some mealworms—those are their absolute favorite—and work on befriending them during their untethered mom time.
I think that’s all for today. I hope your week is going well, and that life is treating you kindly.
Take care, Love, Jaclynn
