Things work out more often than not, and I’m pretty certain it’s not just by chance. I’ve made a lot of calculated moves and choices, from my job to relationships, to how I spend my time, and for anyone to perceive it – me included – as a string of good luck would be mistaken.
I beat Dave this evening in an impromptu three-hole ultimate frisbee competition. The house came with a disc golf basket and frisbees when we moved in, and every so often, when Evelyn’s at her playground, we’ll toss them around.
While we were out there, my three flyer ducks waddled down as though they heard our whoops and were drawn to us. By the way, I must remember to give them the silky husks and rinds leftovers from our corn on the cob dinner. But will they eat it? I haven’t a clue.
Our trip to Georgia is becoming more real by the day. I’ve spent the past few days scheduling sessions for when I’ll be there, swearing and counting the three-hour time difference on my fingers, and contemplating whether an 8 pm or 9 pm session will be ok.
Little goodies from Amazon are arriving, such as a new chair, outdoor umbrella, alarm clock, blanket, bed skirt, and mushroom pillow covers for our cabin. It’s interesting how having guests and seeing their joy at the place is inspiring me to tackle the things I’ve put on the back burner. A young couple, whose one-year anniversary is this week, messaged upon arrival earlier, “Just wanted to tell you we found the place. It’s so cute and so perfect! Thank you so much for all the care you put into this place, it’s so lovely!” Now that’s someone who gets it, and is EXACTLY the reason why I wanted to do AirBnb. If we make any money off of it, that’s gravy. Who needs a profit? Just having the guests pay for the property taxes, electricity, internet, and allowing us to set aside repair money is more than enough.
The next step in the guest room is floating shelves. I never did show you an updated photo of the shiplap wall now that it’s done. So here it is.

I still need to put on another coat of paint. But then, it’ll be time to buy a couple of 1×4’s, stain them, and put them on the wall. Our pocket hole tool, which I’m so excited to try out, has arrived. It should make installing a shelf easy. Like I’m telling everyone, once I figure out how to DIY floating shelves with my pocket hole tool thingy, there won’t be a wall left unshelved.
Just checked my schedule, and my first session isn’t until 11 am! I should make use of the time and do a final coat of paint. Or I could go to Home Depot and get some high grit sandpaper, wall texturing spray stuff, and maybe a lovely cut-in paint brush. That last one might be an impulse buy because, sure, I have a paint brush, but I can always use a new one. Oh! And maybe I’ll get those boards at that time too. We’ll see if I can talk Dave into going.
I better get on with my evening. I hope you had a day. Love, Jaclynn.
