The Fullest Of Days

I packed so many adventures into one day! A 6:30am wake up to pick up my best gal pal Kristen, and we were off to the Twin Falls Trailhead to hike just outside of North Bend. “A flat trail” is what she said, but that was not true. Which was a nice check-in to show me my fitness level is decent.

A stroll through cute downtown North Bend to the Bar and Grill for a post-hike brunch – me a vegetarian eggs Benedict and her a prime rib sandwich minus the horseradish.

Then home, a quick nap, and a first dinner date with Dave’s friend and his family. The fact that the drive was 5 minutes made me love this date all the more.

On their boat, I learned that wake surfing was on the table, and having never done it before and knowing I didn’t have to strap my feet in meant I was curious.

But first, an impromptu stop at a bridge led to myself, Dave, and his friend Noah climbing up boulders to cross over the top of the bridge. Whatever conviction I had about swimming and walking to the bridge vanished as I watched both Noah and Dave jump in before me. The squirrely fears hit my entire being as I tried to convince myself to go. The push and pull of No to C’mon! And then back again. Until I did. A 10-15 foot drop and a bit of water up the nose is exhilarating.

And then after a tutorial by Tashi, I floated in the water, rope in hand, with my heels pressing into the board. Four, maybe five times of being pulled and not making it up, led to a success. As you can see in the video below I held onto the rope, which is not the goal. The objective is to move behind the wake (more to my right) allowing the boat’s wake to act as a wave, so you throw the rope back to the boat and surf. I was just happy I got up, and making the move out of the rough seas seemed like something to try another day. All that to say, is I did it!

And now it’s watering the lawn and winding down the day before sleep. Likely, it’ll be an equally adventurous day tomorrow, as my family is attending the Highland games with two good friends. One of the events I’m most looking forward to is a sheep herding competition.

Alright, I better get to teeth brushing and who knows what else!

Love, Jaclynn

PS The homemade Bhutanese dinner was too beautiful not to take a couple of photos to share.
