Picking Berries

Did you know I manage to keep poinsettias alive? It’s not hard. Just a little extra care like watering them more than other houseplants, finding the right location, and if you’re feeling ambitious, misting them. After all, they are a humid-loving Mexican plant tree.

Today didn’t feel like a typical work day, probably because of the variety of activities. I had a pleasant walk to Starbucks with one client, picked blackberries in the parking lot with another, and went on a delightful stroll while rummaging through a boatload of free clothing with yet another.

Shh, don’t tell my boss.

Speaking of the clothes, I haven’t tried them on yet, but I’m pretty sure I scored a cute sundress and a long-sleeved shirt from the haul.

I started my morning with a heartwarming text exchange with my neighbor: Neighbor: “Who’s the best neighbor ever?” My Response: “It’s you. Duh.” Then I found out they wanted to stay at our cabin, and I playfully asked: “Who’s the best neighbor now?”

Feeling lighter and more spirited, I wonder if it’s due to my responsibilities lessening as I hea near closer to vacation or simply because things are going well, and I feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be in life.

Remember the wounded client? Well, I saw him today. He’s in a place he’s never been before—an existential crisis mixed with fear and untethered insecurity. However, I pointed out a strength I saw in him, his ability to show up. He shows up for therapy, for work, for his family. When I communicated the worth and value of that to those around him, he paused, as if considering something new, and said, “I never thought of it like that.”

On a different note, I’m contemplating moving the oversized chair in the living room downstairs into the guest room. My spidey sense for interior decorating is itching for a change. But the real question is, can I convince Dave to move several hundred pounds and maybe move it back upstairs later?

Tomorrow I’m meeting a client I’ve seen virtually for two years for the first time in person. It’ll be super fun to see how they look in real life, and how much taller or shorter they are than I imagined.

Alright, I better go try on my new clothes and see how they fit. Maybe I’ll have a fresh outfit for work tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Love, Jaclynn

PS The post’s photo is of the blackberries picked earlier. To make that happen, I had to dump a hundred fireball candies on my office floor. This reminds me, I need to bring a Ziploc with me tomorrow.

PSS Lol. I looked closer at the photo and love the amount of berry juice on my client’s hand, it looks like a Walking Dead nightmare image.
