A Tale of Two Cities

Bright and early, I’m about to be whisked away, just like Cinderella in her magical carriage, only, in reality, it will be my friend Kristen driving her red Honda Accord. Our destination: the enchanting land of Portland. You see, her favorite band is playing there, and though I can’t quite recall why we didn’t opt for their Seattle gig (perhaps ticket prices or availability), the road trip will grant us the most precious gift of all – time to talk.

Our itinerary will likely include stops at Powell’s Books, and of course, satisfying our hunger. With a 9 a.m. pick-up, we’ll arrive well before lunchtime, leaving us with ample hours to explore before the 7 p.m. concert and the long drive back. While I’ll be on the lookout for a comfy, free cot to sneak in a nap, Kristen’s considering the possibility of checking into a La Quinta if fatigue sets in. After all, you only live once, right?

I’ve always held a picturesque image of Portland in my mind – a city with a slower pace than Seattle, filled with eccentric charm. But, the truth is, each time I visit and wander through its streets, it somehow doesn’t quite match the grandeur my imagination paints.

Since I have a hankering for hidden treasures, those obscure gems, and the tucked-away nooks and crannies known to only a few. I plan to go on a Google search to unearth a fun thing to explore during our free time. Perhaps a historic cemetery with a famous resident, a quaint historical house, or who knows what else I might stumble upon.

I’m letting out a yawn as I type this; it seems like it’s time for me to turn in for the night. I need all the rest I can get to fully enjoy our adventure.

Since I won’t be lugging my laptop along, I envision I’ll be blogging directly from my phone – during the drive, at restaurants, and maybe even from the cozy cot I might discover in an unconventional location.

So, Ta-Ta for now!

With love, Jaclynn
