Triple Threat

The waitress never knew what hit her.

“Are we celebrating something special this evening?” The friendly-faced woman at La Spiaggia Ristorante asked me, along with my friends, Reid and Paul. Perhaps it was our boisterous and lively demeanor that led to her question, as we seemed as eager and energetic as puppies behind a glass at a pet store.

“It’s our anniversary. Of our throuple,” my 68-year-old friend declared, his eyes widening behind his black-framed spectacles. Paul and I, expecting nothing less from him, sat by, complicit and agreeing to his spontaneous proclamation of love.

It’s the classic “yes, and” scenario, and with these friends, we’re like the three stooges—there’s not much we don’t feel secure about doing with each other.

Earlier, our conversation about the lead actor in Robocop had led Reid to show us a scene from “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension,” a 1984 sci-fi film. And now that we’re in for the evening I’m doing my best to split my attention, one eye on this page, the other on the TV screen. But the movie is winning out, and this post will be short because of it.

With everyone in bed and darkness surrounding me, except for the soft glow of my laptop, I must now join in the symphony of slumbering snores that fill this cozy 600-square-foot space.

Good night. Love, Jaclynn
