The Difference Between Knight and Day

I’m ramped up, ready to vroom my Evel Knievel motorcycle through flames, around the double loopy-loop, and off the ramp into a river of crocodiles. A spirited talk with a good friend, a little caffeine from a mini Pepsi, and an overall rush of positive vibes have me on the edge of my seat. “What’s next?” I say, tossing an imaginary handful of popcorn at my face, most of it falling to the ground like whiskey barrels over Niagara Falls.

If you want the actual stat, I googled it; there’s a 75% survival rate for daredevils going over that water’s edge.

I’ve got a few pending requests: potential new clients, a referral, and a follow-up email. These not-yet-done tasks are like kindling to my stress fire. I instinctively want to shove them off like the ugly babies they are, but honestly, that’s not how to treat an ugly baby, is it?

Some say there’s no such thing as an ugly baby, but let’s be real—have you seen babies? They aren’t all that cute except Evelyn, of course. And you better believe I tell her she’s the only cute one I’ve ever met.

While she was at the fair for round two with Dave, I stayed home. Without her around, I found Paw Patrol figures hidden under and inside her bed and returned them to their bin. This time (and I mean it), I’ve vowed to teach her the art of organization and clean-up. No more playing detective to find missing toys.

Oh, and she wants to go to “night school” with Dave and me. After five minutes of talking about school and the dark, she started talking about “fighting guys.” I only figured out she meant “knight” when the word “armor” came up. We had knight and night mixed up! Now that we’ve cleared that up, she’s super interested in knights, and I’m on the hunt for books and shows we can enjoy together. Perhaps even finding a child’s book about Joan of Arc.

What a Monday, the proportions of relaxation and productivity created the perfect balance. The Golden Bachelorette’s third episode of the season did not disappoint, nor did responding to emails, scheduling clients, and checking off household to-dos. What a win of a day. Hopefully, there’s more of the same in store for me tomorrow. And for you too.

Love, Jaclynn
