Progress Not Perfection

Have you ever told yourself you were done for the day—done eating, done scrolling, done with anything—and then went back on it? That was me today. I had committed to finishing my eating window, proud of the progress I’ve made with intermittent fasting, only to find myself eating a smoothie and fish sticks hours later.

And then came the cherry Coke.

It wasn’t just about the calories or the sugar. It was the feeling of breaking a promise to myself. I’ve talked a lot about the relationship I want to have with myself—one rooted in fairness, self-trust, and a balance between indulgence and discipline. But today, I didn’t keep that balance. I didn’t keep my word.

At that moment, I told myself I was owed that treat. That’s the part that concerns me most—the feeling of entitlement, like I deserve to sabotage my progress because I’ve worked hard.

But here’s the thing: This journey isn’t just about numbers on a scale or following a plan. It’s about building trust with myself. It’s about proving, through small, consistent actions, that I can rely on myself. Today was a stumble, yes, but it’s also a reminder of what I value.

I don’t want to betray the discipline I’m cultivating, and I won’t. Progress isn’t undone in a single choice; it’s lost when we let one slip spiral into more.

So I’m taking a pause. No judgment, no shame—just a quiet recommitment to the path I’ve chosen. Because this journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about being fair to myself, forgiving the missteps, and continuing to move forward.

Love, Jaclynn
