Snow Much Fun

I dared to dream a dream—a dream of sledding, tubing, and making snow angels. It felt like a distant fantasy, but a quick search on Google revealed something unexpected. Ober Mountain Ski Resort, nestled in the ancient Great Smoky Mountains, was just a mere 5-hour drive away. The “smoke” I once assumed was the gray mist of old trees was, in fact, a natural vapor created by moisture and organic compounds from the lush vegetation.

As I imagined the towering heights of my old friend, Mount Rainier—14,411 feet of majesty—I couldn’t help but compare it to the 3,000-foot peaks just 15 minutes east of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. But that 5-year-old Evelyn will be in tow, Ober Mountain’s appeal was undeniable. The wristband offering ice bumper cars, a gondola ride, and a roller coaster weaving through the mountains made it impossible not to click the “Book Now” button.

I will get my snow, and so will sweet Evelyn. The adventure will be a three-day trip in January, perhaps right after my birthday, a perfect way to kick off the new year. It will be a family enjoying life together—sledding down hills, warming up by the fire, and savoring connection. This would be more than just a getaway; it would celebrate togetherness, joy, and the simple beauty of making memories.

Love, Jaclynn
