When I force myself to write, I resist. I’m a stubborn donkey that way. It’s much better to gently invite myself to the page and remind myself of the value of spending some quiet time with my thoughts. Now that I think of it, I actually do a lot of caring things for myself during the day. From morning yoga to watering and trimming my plants, feeding my sourdough starter, prepping meals, studying Spanish, leaf blowing, spending time with Dave and Evelyn, and even practicing my crocheting—I’m intentionally taking care of myself.
I’d say I did well by myself today.
While searching through my Google Drive for something specific, I stumbled upon a document where I listed the achievements I made in 2021. As I read through it, I was genuinely impressed. Here are just a few highlights:
- Left a job where my needs weren’t being met.
- Researched and implemented a reliable, easy-to-manage system for my business.
- Created a meetup group to connect with other parents of toddlers in the community—out of which came a good friend.
- Practiced intermittent fasting, met my weight loss goal, and developed a healthier relationship with food.
- Asked for and received childcare support during the week, which led to making another friend.
- Joined a writing group that keeps me accountable and offers support.
- Rented an office space. What can I say? It’s nice to get out of the house and go somewhere.
So often, we trudge through our days without taking stock of how well we’re doing. Today, when I felt stuck and unsure, Dave reminded me about the leaves needing blowing. That small task helped me move, feel accomplished, and lighten my mind.
This made me realize how often we focus on what’s undone instead of celebrating the small wins that keep us going. Growth doesn’t always come from dramatic changes—it’s the steady, intentional steps that build a life you’re proud of.
At any point in your day when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or restless, take a one-minute pause to reflect. Ask yourself:
What’s one thing I’ve done today that I’m proud of, no matter how small?
As always. take care and thanks for being here. Love, Jaclynn
