The Healing Heel

I’m worried my foot’s heel is going to get infected. Remember that callus cheese-slice grater I was gifted for Christmas that I over-shaved my foot with? Well, now three deep cracks have formed, like little river tendrils, and I’ve been tending to them. My routine: hydrogen peroxide for cleaning, followed by wrapping my foot in cellophane with a layer of Aquaphor to moisten and soothe it overnight.

As I write, my foot is bare, tucked under me, and the dull burn in my heel reminds me that healing takes time. Last night’s wrap helped, but clearly, one night isn’t enough. I’ll have to stick with this regimen a little longer.

So, I’m back from the kitchen, and now my right foot’s wrapped in Glad Press’n Seal—3-in-1 Seal guaranteed—and I’m hoping my slashed tire of a heel has a fighting chance to heal.

Honestly, I’m not in the mood for much tonight. Writing, celebrating New Year’s, or even just existing with enthusiasm feels like a stretch. I overate, and that’s probably dragging my mood down further. I’m here, though, foot-wrapped and hoping for better days—for both my heel and my outlook.

Tonight, I’m here out of discipline. Even though I feel like a slug whose only goal is to sluggity slug, writing daily is a commitment I’ve made, so here I am.

Maybe tomorrow will be better, both for my foot and my mood. For now, I’ll settle for showing up, even if it’s not perfect.

Happy New Year. Love, Jaclynn
