Up there with people selling secondhand mirrors and accidentally catching their reflection in the shot are product reviews where the critique is actually just a fact. Take the review I saw when garden seed shopping that cost the Snail Vine seeds their five-star rating: “It grows slow.”
The packet clearly states the expected growth rate, along with factors like the hardiness zone, soil acidity or alkalinity, and whether it’s planted in sun or shade. But I digress.
I just love a good complaint that’s really just a user error.
Speaking of unexpected surprises, I thought the Savannah Bananas were the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball—stunts and tricks with little real competition. Turns out, it’s an actual game, just with a lot of extras: dancing players, behind-the-back catches, and fan-assisted outs if someone in the stands catches a ball.
The umpires did cartwheels, one pitcher threw strikes from stilts, and between innings, there were banana-themed races. I couldn’t help but smile the whole time—even while sneaking in some Spanish vocab practice, trying to imprint words like prender, baraja, and frotar into my cabeza.
On another note, when Evelyn’s Aunt Cathy is done staying over with us, Evelyn will be riding along for a two-night stay with Grandma and Grandpa. In her five years, I can only recall one other time we were apart for more than a night—when she took a float plane trip to Friday Harbor.
I think I’m already missing her. Insert sad face emoji. I don’t even know what to do with myself without her here. Eh, I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
Did you know the weather was 68 today, will be 69 tomorrow, and in the mid to upper 70’s the days following? I am in shock to be gardening in winter, but when in Rome. Besides seeds, I bought two small palm trees, a purple-colored bamboo, a kiwi plant, raspberries, and grapes. Cheers trial and erroring in this new climate!
Alrighty, it’s way past my bedtime. You take care, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
Love, Jaclynn
