The Truest Love: A Poem

We have a love like that—
the kind from movies,
from the ages.

It’s me at my lowest
and you’re there.

It’s two people fighting

for a future

the other doesn’t see.

I’m addicted to it—

to you,
to what you feel.

Your heart sends smoke signals
to mine,

and the regrets settle on us

like soot.

And in the end,
my time you’ll judge.

From my tears
and restless nights

you’ll have seen every one,

and I will know

the truest love I’ve known—
Yours.

Love, Jaclynn
