An Unreasonable Person

I’m rooting for Georgia in the SEC Championship football game. I don’t feel bad about it either. UW has always been my college team to root for and they’ve had some good years, but now living in this southern state, and eavesdropping on single-serving conversations leading up to today’s game has had me wanting to be a part of the action. 21–0, Georgia leading Alabama, not too bad of a game to bandwagon onto.

While Tim, Maria, and the kids take a trip to Savannah, we’re on morning let-them-out-of-the-coop and evening close-the-coop chicken duty. At just past dusk the chickens file in and are ready to be closed in. Well, except for one.

Last night the feathered football sat hunched on the coop’s roof, and worrying she was hurt I told Evelyn so as I stood eye-to-eye searching for blood or odd movement. How docile she was when she stood, allowing me to tuck her into the crook of my elbow to hand-deliver her to the enclosure. And the same care was needed for her tonight.

I’m muddling through writing this, for one: my editor reading this over my shoulder (that’d be me) sees little value in anything I’ve written and is prodding me to select all, delete.

I’m resisting since the only other thing I can think to share is about a woman with a very full cart at Last Chance Goodwill rolling up next to a stuffed-animal bin, pointing at the gentleman’s cart next to me and saying, “You took that Mickey Mouse from my cart.” After several attempts at telling her he’d gotten from a bin and another bystander confirming she’d seen him, he called her a Karen and handed it to her when she got even louder. The tension got pretty thick there for a moment and even though it was obvious the woman was lying, don’t nobody want to tussle over a 50¢ item with an unpredictable and unreasonable person.

Well, Evelyn’s waiting, standing over my shoulder to play Transformers with her. I’ll see you here tomorrow.
