Ice, Ice Baby

I’m tempted to do a segment called I Don’t Care. Taking the random things that show up in my social media feed—the ones I click because of a headline—and after a few minutes of reading and a deep dive, I’m left with a head full of information I truly do not care about.

In my vision, it was funny. Like an SNL sketch. But when I pitched it to Dave and barely got a lift on one side of his mouth, I knew I needed to go back to the drawing board.

I put off writing until time’s pressure gives me no option. I don’t know why I’m in a season of blah—uninspired—but being an Eeyore in a space that’s usually creative and open is… not fun.

Which is interesting, because having an Eeyore in Pooh—even though he’s not a central figure—does give the whole thing a flavor the others don’t.

What if I leaned into it? Into the blah. Into the Eeyore.

First off, I’m so bored with writing this that I opened a new tab to search for “best soup near me.” I’d prefer ramen. But not at a restaurant. I don’t want to spend money or drive too far. If I learn to make it, then I can always have it. Teach a man to fish, etc.

A couple of weeks ago, I complained about egg noodles and my disdain for them in homemade chicken noodle soup. I mentioned wanting to use the package of udon noodles instead—which I did. I don’t think I told you how much they thickened and turned the soup into good old Campbell’s chicken noodle. Like, exactly.

Uh oh. I might have just sauntered into a comment section about ICE and deporting “violent criminals.” Sure, that’s what some narratives say. But have they actually talked to ICE—or people in those positions—like I have? I’d bet not. Because if they had, they’d know how even they think their orders are nonsensical, and completely out of line with what the administration is promoting.

Sigh. Whatever.

Lastly, here’s a text from my bestie Kristin that came in a second ago. She said:
“You should know, your last voicemail to me—which opened with ‘I don’t know if you listen to voicemails like I don’t’—was from December 23rd. (It’s January 30th.) I just listened to it.”

That’s all folks!

Love, Jaclynn
