Breakfast time hasn’t even arrived, and already Evelyn’s asking me for candy and a movie. As usual, I kindly decline her requests. But she’s absolutely thrilled at the idea of bringing chocolate chips for show and tell, representing the delightful “ch” sound of the day.
So many things have this incredible golden glow like the sun shining brightly through Evelyn’s curls. We both step out the door, full of energy and ready to take on the day. She tags along to say goodbye, but not before her pants swiftly find their way down to her ankles as she squats and showers the grass with giggles.
Earlier, when she first emerged from her cozy slumber, she stood before me with her hair all tousled—a true mop of wild locks. In that moment, I couldn’t help but notice how she’s growing up, especially with her height and slender legs. Witnessing someone’s daily transformation brings about subtle changes that sometimes leave me feeling disoriented, like witnessing a mesmerizing sleight of hand—did that really just happen?
The air is filled with the novelty of cotton puffs that fall and scatter as soon as the door swings open. It’s like experiencing a Midwest-style blizzard only occurring in the summertime and done at the hand of shedding Cottonwood trees. The scene is utterly magically obnoxious.
I’ve come to realize the importance of prioritizing get-togethers and meaningful connections. And it’s made me more proactive about pulling out my calendar and planning ahead, even if the event is still a month away. How effortlessly things fall into place when you give them the attention they deserve like my parents joining us at the cabin this weekend for the first time.
The coast, the land where the pines and clear air await us with open arms. Amidst the task of painting the cabin’s exterior, we find solace in the simple pleasures of home-cooked meals, cozy nights spent under one roof, and leisurely strolls along sandy paths.
I’m excited to continue our conversation while enjoying the coastal retreat. Take care, and talk soon!
Love, Jaclynn
