The Dudette Abides

I received a client referral for a roofing supervisor, and his comment made me chuckle. He said, “I lead a band from misfit island. This won’t be the only one.” Being good friends, I responded, “Keep sending them. You can have confidence in me. I’m good at what I do.” His playful reply was, “I already knew that, silly girl. You could easily survive in my group of friends when most of your colleagues would hide in the closet.”

I took that as a compliment, and it made me smile!

With only 45 minutes left before I head upstairs to watch Apple TV’s “Silo,” I’m on a time crunch to write, edit, and post this blog. By the way, I’m proud of staying awake during five episodes, only dozing off for 15 minutes. That must mean the show is engaging!

Earlier, we listed our little cabin on Airbnb. It often sits there, waiting for people to love and appreciate its sweet nature, so I’m happy to share it with others. We’ve set the price way cheap because, well, why not? I want to learn how to be a badass host, make first-time host mistakes, and learn from them. Even if it’s not a significant source of income, it would be cool if it could cover its own expenses like property taxes, water, internet, and utilities.

We’re a bit frugal, so most likely, after guests stay, we’ll spend the extra two and a half hours deep cleaning and preparing it for the next visitors.

I’m currently sitting in what used to be an office but turned into a cat room while we fostered my cousin’s cats. It has now transformed into an office, but as you know from yesterday’s post, my alter ego is out and proud. I’ve redecorated it and shifted the furniture to make it more conducive to awesome online therapy and inspirational brainstorming.

Speaking of hatching, I reached out to the Muscovy Facebook group to ask how long it would take for the ducks to fully hatch once they’ve pecked the shell a bit. Apparently, it should happen within one to two days. If my stopwatch is correct, we should expect it sometime tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

I was interested in a webcam on an eagle’s nest earlier this year. There were two eggs, but unfortunately, they never hatched. The person updating all the viewers did an excellent job normalizing and educating us about non-hatching eggs, mentioning that they might try again if time allows. I’ve checked back since then, but they haven’t attempted another nest yet.

Although I’m hopeful we’ll have baby ducks soon, I understand that nature has its own plans. And just like the Dude, I will abide.

And that’s about it for now! Love, Jaclynn
