“No escape from reality, open your eyes, look up to the sky and see!” Queen starts up stage left, as I begin a lecture stage right.
What’s perception, and what’s reality? I had a thought-provoking conversation about all the ways we perceive rejection from others. They didn’t look at me, rejected. They didn’t call me back, rejected. They didn’t bring it up, rejected.
Delving into the depths of perception versus reality led us to one simple conclusion: ask the person.
Ever experienced that rotten egg, sulfur-like gas smell from propane? Well, I’m astonished to say that I’ve discovered the perfect combination of foods that produce it within ourselves. One part flour tortilla, one part almost moldy, melted mozzarella cheese, one part homemade salsa with extra garlic, and one part homemade guacamole with even more garlic. Indulge in that medley of flavors and brace yourself for the offensive odor.
In revamping the guest room, I’m determined to do things right. Besides caulking and repairing holes with spackle, I’ve decided to add shiplap. Not the expensive kind, but think strips of plywood. When I noticed the bulging areas on the wall, most likely due to damage or poor drywalling, I opted against simply covering them with a big mirror or pictures. Instead, I’m taking that extra step to fulfill a long-standing desire. Tomorrow, painting awaits, along with a trip to Lowe’s for the necessary materials.
I’m genuinely pumped about life right now. Just a week ago, I was struggling a wee bit, and here I am, back and better than ever. Well, now that this is done, I may have to sneak downstairs, grab a roller, and get to work slapping some paint on the walls.
Here’s a photo of the room before the transformation.
