I enjoy my role as a writer. I relish the way writing tunes me into my environment, as I dial in the words to express what I see. Like the constant procession of coastal clouds, marching northward at a brisk pace, almost as if they’re saying, “You got to move it, move it.” Some clouds linger higher in the sky, their streaks and patterns inspiring pilots and painters alike.
Much like the clouds, my moods are subject to the shifting winds.
The prospect of having a breakfast nook with an L-shaped bench and a round table in our future kitchen puts my mind at ease. I’ve had concerns that the house we anticipate building might turn out to be just another cookie-cutter, Pleasantville-style home. I wonder, where will “my touch” be? Knowing I’ll have a cozy corner to kick up my feet, gaze out the window with a book in one hand and a cup of coffee, while my dear husband Dave dons an apron, takes on the role of the maid, and makes me glazed doughnuts, brings me comfort.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of my fall pressure washing routine. I understand it’s typically a spring task, but you know how much I enjoy it. Since we plan to sell this property next summer, I’d like to get a head start on cleaning the driveway stained by long-gone duck droppings and addressing the grasses sprouting in the cracks of the blacktop.
Perhaps a trip to Home Depot is in order to purchase deck paint. I’ll bring a sample of the current ugly orange-brown color to have it matched, so I can refresh the back porch. I’m quite impressed with the wood paste that filled in the cracks and covered the bite marks left by the previous owner’s dog on the railings. Now, it’s time to paint over it, and I hope it turns out well!
What else is on our radar? I can hardly believe we’ve already purchased tickets for a Christmas event. It’s a two-hour train ride in Snoqualmie that tends to sell out quickly. We managed to secure tickets for a 3 pm ride since all the earlier time slots were already taken.
Speaking of holidays, Halloween is approaching rapidly, and it serves as a reminder that Dave and I still haven’t settled on costumes. A quick browse on Amazon just now led me to purchase two dragon costumes that match Evelyn’s, which we’ll surprise her with closer to the big day. They’re more like cozy pajamas, which is a plus since we can get more use out of them than just for one night.
Well, it’s time for pajamas and snuggling into bed. I hope you had a fantastic weekend.
Love ya, Jaclynn
