What’s your top tip to be successful in life?
Be okay with going without.
Trends, fads, the latest gadget, skincare product, or exercise doo-dad will forever promise to make your life easier, your face or body better, or your happiness just one purchase away.
Resist.
Know that you’re okay as you are.
The ability to resist the impulse to keep up with society’s culture of consumption is one of the most valuable skills you can develop. Every time you say no, you’re strengthening something far more important than your bank account. You’re strengthening your sense of self.
I am okay. I am me. I have enough.
To me, success isn’t keeping up. It’s creating enough margin in your life that you aren’t constantly chasing the next thing.
Save your money. Invest it with a long-term strategy. Diversify. Talk to people who have quietly built wealth and ask them how they did it.
Then listen carefully.
Notice the car they drive. Notice how they live well below their means. More often than not, you wouldn’t know they were wealthy because the kind of success I’m talking about isn’t flashy.
It’s quiet. It takes time.
Going without is a skill. Sometimes it’s necessary to survive. Other times, it’s what allows you to build wealth, buy yourself options, and create a life with more freedom and less urgency.
The most successful people I know aren’t the ones who say yes to everything.
They’re the ones who learned the power of saying no.
