The Rear Windshield Wiper

You might say it’s hard to be me, and I’d agree.

Take my phone, for example. With very little progress made in the day, it was lost. The bedroom nightstand, closet shelf, and bathroom counter all came up empty. Instead of using the usual helpful side button on my Apple Watch to make it ding, my watch simply said, Disconnected.

So I brought out the big guns: the Find My Phone feature on my laptop. The moment it announced, “Playing sound now,” I took off. Not toward the bedroom or bathroom, but toward the kitchen and garage. The faint dinging grew louder as I swung open the garage door. Louder still as I walked toward the SUV.

There it was, propped against the rear window, resting on the back windshield wiper.

How? Why?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Earlier today I picked up two packages from the airport. A.K.A. my parents. They made the 5½-hour trek across the country for a quick weekend visit. Right now we’re watching the Mariners and staying up well past our bedtimes to do it. East Coast start times mean first pitch isn’t until 10 p.m., which is pushing all of us to our limits.

Within minutes of arriving, my Dad started unfolding heavily newspaper-wrapped packages. The perfect gift from the Pacific Northwest: still-frozen smoked salmon, halibut, and salmon.

Unrelated: there are currently five frogs on the front porch—two large toads and three adorable green tree frogs.

Life’s good.

Night night.

Love,

Jaclynn
