The Shattered Bridge

I take my work seriously. I step into my clients’ old coping strategies with them—to hear them, understand them, and walk into those places as fully as they’ll allow me. Together, we find the doors that need unlocking. They give me the keys. I unlock them, and together we walk free.

We do this over and over again. We walk out of neglect’s cages, blinking in the light of day. We watch as our fears dissolve to dust. We see the monsters transform into the cutest cartoon characters, and we know beyond all else that we did nothing wrong.

Just because childhood dealt the hand it did, and we were forced to believe that care, love, and being seen weren’t for us, doesn’t mean that’s where our story ends.

We reached the other side.

At some point, the bridge from then to now shattered, and in all our struggling to get to the other side, we didn’t see it happen.

And now that we are really free, we get to exist knowing our value was never theirs to decide. It’s ours.

And that freedom means we paint a new story.

One of riding a bicycle to work.

One of building model airplanes on our kitchen table.

One of unabashed passion for hobbies, the natural world, and those whom we love.

One of knowing that the striving is over.

That we can finally rest.

Love, Jaclynn
