Living Is Hard Enough

One thing I’ve been thinking about is how people can see the world through an us versus them lens. To be around people who believe and think differently, I need to be aware of that and create enough space not to become reactive.

Sometimes it’s communicated to me that I’m not part of someone’s tribe—that I’ve broken some rule or failed to meet an expectation because, from their perspective, their way of seeing the world is the right one.

I don’t have to agree with how they think or adopt their beliefs. What I do need to do is acknowledge that it’s a stance some people take. It helps them feel safe, or at least they believe it does. It gives them a sense of certainty and security.

I don’t buy into the us versus them mentality.

Living is hard enough. Getting on the same page with another person is hard enough. Building a genuine relationship is hard enough. I don’t want to make it any harder than it already is.

So if someone around me is a little more fearful, insecure, or immature, I let them.

I don’t have to join them there.

Love, Jaclynn
