Who You Are

“The answer to the question you keep asking yourself. Who are you meant to be? Go inside, bang the drum, and find out.”

The wise elder commands the youthful main character inward; into a cave where she will find her calling. This is from the movie “Moana”.

Inside she learns that her ancestors were one with the seas, and this knowledge unlocks the voyager within herself.

I know my calling is to counsel. And to write. Do you know what yours is?

It took years to figure it out, and most of the days were chalked full of detours and distractions, and lots of hard work.

The elder continues –

“And the call isn’t out there at all,
it’s inside me.
It’s like the tide
Always falling and rising
I will carry you here in my heart, you’ll remind me”

The path to standing in the knowledge of who you are isn’t always straightforward, is it? And even though it takes courage and leaps of faith at times, that’s what makes it all the more satisfying when we reach it.
